According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), electrocutions were the fifth leading cause of workplace deaths from 1980 through 1992. The 5,348 deaths caused by electrocutions accounted for 7% of all workplace fatalities with an average of 411 deaths per year. Electrical incidents remain in the top five leading causes of workplace injury and death.
